Cycles of Matter Lesson

In this lesson students investigate the cycling of matter and flow of energy in ecosystems with multiple activities including Ecosystem In A Bottle, groundwater simulations, and journal reflections.

  • Objectives
    • Capture students' interest and assess prior cycles of matter knowledge
    • Students will construct a model of an ecosystem that shows the cycling of matter and flow of energy in the ecosystem.
    • Provide a clear and concise explanation of the cycles of matter, reinforcing students' discoveries.
    • Extend students' understanding through application and deeper exploration.
    • Assess students' understanding of the cycles of matter with quiz or test.
